So, I sort of gave up on this whole blogging thing, but here I am back again. I’m not sure why I stopped writing, except maybe I got busy with you know, life. Lately, everything I felt like writing about seemed uninteresting, but if I’m honest this blog isn’t for anyone but me. Although I stopped blogging, I did not stop mothering, running, and hunting. If I had stopped mothering that would have been terrible, poor Chicken! I guess I will just fill everybody in on what’s been going on in our lives over the last few months.
In regards to my running, it’s on full force. I am gearing up for my third marathon. I will be running the St. Jude the first Saturday in December. I have also decided to run my first ultramarathon, a local 50k in mid-January. The training has gone reasonably well with a few hiccups along the way. I am currently in the midst of the high mileage weeks, so I am just trying to not eat everything in sight and get plenty of sleep, which has been easier since Chicken is finally sleeping through the night. YAY!
Life with Chicken is ever changing. We took her to Cape Cod to visit her grandparents in August. We had a blast, and it was so nice to spend an entire week with them. Chicken also got to meet a lot of her extended family too! After the trip, I weaned Chicken from the breast. It was super easy for her, and a lot less so for me. Oh, the hormones!
Over Labor Day weekend, I took Chicken on her first Roberson Family Dove Hunt. My family does an annual dove hunt with everybody plus some, and it is always a blast! By went on her first hunt, I mean dressed in camo and road the Ranger around with her Pops. But I was so proud to have her with me on a weekend that has played a big part throughout my life. She was darn cute in camo too!
Chicken turned 1 in mid-September! I know! I can’t believe it either! She has grown up so much in the last couple of months. She went from baby to toddler overnight. I swear someone must have stolen my baby and replaced her with this walking, talking, giggly girl. I mean she’s pretty great, but I’d have liked to say goodbye to the previous one. Just saying.
So now, the Burke family is just working, dealing with my training schedule, chasing this little girl all over, and waiting not so patiently for duck season to start. Probably be able to wait a little more patiently if Ole Miss was better at football, but we might have to wait forever for that.
